The LVNBA is part of NBA Region IX which is one of the largest and most geographically diverse of the twelve regions that compose the NBA. It includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Guam.
NBA Region IX’s goals include “combating attacks on affirmative action and the promotion of diversity; encouraging law firm and corporate diversity initiatives; advocating judicial appointments for African-American judges at all levels of the judiciary; and strengthening the links between affiliate organizations within the Region.” Source: http://nbaregionix.org/.
Region IX governance structure comprises officers, committees, and a regional council. There are four officers: Regional Director, Deputy Director, Secretary, and Treasurer. Region IX has five ad hoc committees: Communications and Public Relations, Fundraising, Judicial Relations, Pipeline Initiatives, and Young Lawyer Initiatives. The Regional Council is the arm of the Region that is composed of the Regional Director, a representative of each affiliate chapter within the Region, and a representative from each area where there are no affiliate chapters.
