LVNBA Member Sandra Douglass Morgan was selected as one of the “Nation’s Best Advocates: 40 Lawyers Under 40.”

Nation’s Best Advocates recognizes talented individuals (age 40 and under) within the African-American legal community who have achieved prominence and distinction, professionally and philanthropically. Selected nominees represent a cross-section of legal professionals: solo practitioners, government lawyers, judges, academicians, corporate counsels, young elected officials, and other lawyers using their degree in innovative ways. Nominees were chosen based on their achievement, innovation, vision, leadership, and legal community involvement.

A native of Las Vegas, Sandra Douglass Morgan serves as the Senior Deputy City Attorney for the City of North Las Vegas, the third largest municipality in the state of Nevada. In this capacity, she provides legal counsel and assistance to the City Council, Planning Commission, and City departments and boards.

Her primary focus is civil litigation, transactional, and development matters, where she drafts and negotiates agreements on behalf of the City. She also represents the City before the Eighth Judicial District Court and the United States District Court. Prior to joining the City of North Las Vegas in 2008, she served as Litigation Attorney for MGM Mirage, one of the largest gaming corporations in the world. From 2002-2005, Ms. Morgan litigated construction and administrative law matters as an associate at Parker, Nelson & Associates.

Ms. Morgan has consistently served the legal profession through active membership and leadership positions in professional associations, to include the Las Vegas Chapter of the National Bar Association. A former chapter vice-president, she currently holds the position of Community Service Chairman and served as chair for previous NBA scholarship banquets. This year, she successfully coordinated the first Martin Luther King, Jr. Drum Major for Justice Competition that supported three Las Vegas high school students to travel to the Region IX competition. Ms. Morgan also ensures the Las Vegas Chapter remains collaborates with local community partners in sponsoring and supporting community service events such as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service and local voter education and outreach efforts.

Ms. Morgan is also a member of the Clark County Bar Association, and the International Municipal Lawyers Association, and the State Bar of Nevada. As a volunteer with the State Bar of Nevada Young Lawyers Division, Ms. Morgan has presented the “Goldilocks –Trial of the Century” program to fourth and fifth graders in Southern Nevada. This program gives students an introduction to the legal system, and explains the various elements of a jury trial. Ms. Morgan assists the students as they serve as jurors and decide if Goldilocks is guilty or not guilty.

Ms. Morgan is also Vice-President of the Nevada Regional Board of Trustees for Olive Crest, a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse. As an advocate for Olive Crest programs, Sandra is committed to Family Resource Center, which connects children and families to much need resources and services to encourage and foster stable, safe households.

As a dedicated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and The Links, Inc., Ms. Morgan proudly serves as Parliamentarian for the Las Vegas chapters of both organizations. As Co-Chair of the biennial AKA Day at the Capitol program, she organized members of Southern Nevada women’s organizations to travel to Carson City, Nevada and interact with their legislators on issues such as education, health care, domestic violence, and social services.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Nevada, Reno and was awarded a Juris Doctor from the William S. Boyd School of Law at University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Ms. Morgan is the wife of Don Morgan, Jr. and her proudest accomplishments are their children Dylan and Dana.

Ms. Douglass Morgan  received her award at a special awards gala at the 2012 NBA Annual Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.
