On March 29, 2012, members of the LVNBA came together with our joint venture partner, the State Bar of Nevada, and other members of the legal community Reno to celebrate the publication of the February 2012 Black History Month issue of the Nevada Lawyer magazine. The Nevada Lawyer is the official publication of the State Bar of Nevada, has a circulation of approximately 10,000, and is sent to all Nevada judges and attorneys admitted to practice law in Nevada.
The issue celebrates the contributions of African-American lawyers in Nevada against the backdrop of the civil rights movement on a state level and a national level. This historic issue celebrates successes and achievements while also aknowledging wrongs and injustices with which our society is still coming to grips.
The event was attended by approximately 35 people. Several people made remarks including Justice Michael Douglas, Judge Kenneth Howard, Gemma Greene Waldron, Issue Editor Beau Sterling, and the co-chairs of the steering committee for the Black History Month issue LVNBA Vice President Professor Rachel Anderson and past President of the State Bar of Nevada and LVNBA Member Kathleen England.
