Members Recognized for Pro Bono Service

Justice Michael L. Douglas

We would like to congratulate the past and present LVNBA members who were recognized at the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada’s (LACSN) 11th Annual Pro Bono Awards Luncheon at the Rio on December 2, 1011:

Justice Michael L. Douglas, who was the co-recipient of the Justice Nancy Becker Pro Bono Award of Judicial Excellence, together with Justice James Hardesty – This award is given in honor of Nancy Becker, one of the founders of the Pro Bono Project and a strong advocate for access to justice, to recognize a member of the judiciary who has given his or her time, energy, and influence to encourage pro bono work and support access to justice.

Cybill L. Dotson, Patricia Lee, Augusta A. Massey, and Guinness I. Ohazuruike, for donating their services among the volunteers providing free legal advace to unrepresented individuals through Ask-A-Lawyer Programs in Family Law, Landlord/Tenant, Foreclosure Mediation and Bankruptcy, and through the Small Business Project, Senior Law Fair, Vetran’s Stand Down and Homeless Assistance Project.

Patricia Lee and Augusta A. Massey for donating over 50 hours of pro bono service.

Sonya Miller and Brittnie Watkins for volunteering as Educational Surrogate Parent volunteers and dedicating their time and effort to advocate for educational services in local schools for children with disabilities in the foster care system.

Judge Gloria J. Sturman for being among the judges teaching CLE programs and participating in law firm visits to make LACSN’s training and recruitment efforts successful in 2011.

We would also like to congratulate the rest of the LASCN 2011 Pro Bono Award Recipients.
